YES WE ARE OPEN EASTER SUNDAY

 This Issue

We look at Long Acre Farm, where your pork comes from.

Last week Drop The Beet and Mama Lou's shared first prize for their decorated stall. One lucky punter went home with $200 of market vouchers. I gave out so many spot prizes I lost count, folks had free coffee packs, produce, pate, flowers and much more to add a bit of cheer to their Sunday, whilst celebrating National Farmers Market Day, a huge success, what can we come up with for next year?

This Sunday, a fantastic Easter Market is happening, with a new total of stalls, music, and sun (hopefully)

What else is happening?

We have Chris Smithers who will be playing his keyboard entertaining you on this Sunday morning

eggs, Snailhouse Bakery, and all your regular favourite stalls will be there packed with your favourite produce.

Long Acre Farm

Rick and Nairn, after running Junction Hotel in Spring Creek, went for a total change and have had Longacre farm now for eight years , they decided to go into pig farming as an opportunity to supply the local community with local heritage breed free range pork. Rik tells me "our pigs are all free range, and we don't use sow crates".  Animal welfare plays a big part in their farming practice, happy pigs make better bacon. Its always exciting to see another healthy litter born, and to know the sow's are happy in their environment.

Nairn said " Through demand from the local market, we have adapted to meet the needs of our customers. Initially we employed someone to butcher our meat but we now have our own on farm butchery and process different cuts of meat that are popular with the local market in house. We also make all of our own sausages which have no added preservatives or fillers. We pride ourselves on being adaptive in this business, we are now moving into providing seasonal lamb from Long Acre Farm. "

Rik and Nairn have definitely proved their adaptability from running a hotel, to a pig farm, where Rik now knows how to butcher all their own meat.

When Rik and Nairn aren't immersed in breeding their, happy as pigs in mud pigs, Rik enjoys pilates and Nairn rides her Arab Stallion around the valley.
