Spotlight on Mama Lou's: A Journey of Passion and Purpose
Mama Lou's, a cherished stall at our Farmers Market, is the brainchild of Luana, a talented baker, pastry chef, and chocolatier who decided to take the leap into working for herself. After years in the culinary industry, Luana wanted the freedom to explore new passions while still sharing her love for plant-based food with the Blenheim community. Understanding the challenge of finding vegan options at markets, she was inspired to create a stall that offers delicious, healthy, and plant-based dishes.
Mama Lou's is known for its crispy curry mushrooms, and Luana is excited to expand her savory offerings this season. Additionally, she plans to introduce plant-based baked goods and increase the availability of her homemade, sugar-free chai tea, with hopes of selling it in local cafes.
A native of Switzerland, Luana brought the popular market dish of apple fritters (Apfelchuechli) to New Zealand after a conversation with her family back home. Serendipity struck when she received a new commercial fryer, solidifying her decision to bring this treat to the Marlborough Farmers Market. Her apples are sourced fresh from Lowes Orchard, emphasizing her commitment to supporting local producers.
The name Mama Lou's reflects her nurturing nature—many of her former colleagues affectionately called her "Mumma," and Lou is short for Luana. Her journey isn't just about food; it's also about personal growth. After three months of traveling and engaging in Shamanic Breathwork, Luana returned to New Zealand with a renewed sense of purpose and balance.
When she's not at the market, you can find Luana gardening, practicing yoga, or crafting with stones and crystals, always striving to live a life full of balance, trust, and radiance. Mama Lou's is more than just a food stall; it's a reflection of Luana’s journey to nourish both body and soul, and she's thrilled to share it with our market community.
The Witherlea Jitterbugs -
Jump Jam team will be fundraising at this weekend’s Marlborough Farmers’ Market to support their journey to the national competition in Christchurch on November 2nd, 2024. They’ll be selling homemade baking, including cakes, muffins, slices, and fudge, along with running a raffle featuring prizes like a staycation at Blenheim Palms Motel and grocery hampers. The funds raised will help cover entry fees and costumes, and the team is grateful to the Marlborough Farmers’ Market for the opportunity to fundraise.

SharpAs Tool Tips
Sometimes handles get broken for various reasons. If it’s a knife you like, I offer the option of putting a new custom made handle on it!
Many times I see the aluminium rivets failing on knife handles, so I use stainless steel to give it extra strength.
If you have handles to repair, knives to sharpen, blades of all descriptions to repair or sharpen, come and see me at the Redwood Market on Saturday mornings or the Marlborough Farmers’ Market on Sunday mornings or contact me direct on 027 444 5535. cheers Ron
See you Sunday, 9 to noon, A&P showgrounds.
