Marlborough’s foodie weekend is here for the community to get together and reconnect once more. How nice to see our region busy with events again. Longer sunny days, and orange level now in the distant past we have a return to normality. We just need to wave Jack Frost goodbye now.
Start the weekend today with Feast Marlborough in central Blenheim. Move on to Clos Henri for the Cheese Fest on Saturday (find our community stall there with the Eftpos flag) and finish the weekend with a visit to the Marlborough Farmers Market. We’re the place for you to replenish your pantry for the coming week with top of the South seasonal produce. Nothing imported, just authentically local produce and products made here, which means that they are kind to the environment with a low carbon footprint.
This Sunday we have a few stallholders returning to the market. We welcome Isobel and Delicia back at last. Bring your empty olive oil bottles for a refill and then treat yourself to a hot waffle with handmade gelato from Delicia. James is back with his face paints and bird houses. The Nutt Ranch and Minghettis are back too (see what they are bringing below). Alys treats you to a taste of her creamy capsicum and carrot soup. Gourmet Deli returns next week. See the full list of who will be present on our
homepage. We update this every Saturday.
On Sunday we are delighted to be hosting Alzheimers Marlborough at the market. They will be selling tickets for their upcoming Art, Craft and Collection Trail and have a raffle going also. All funds raised will be used to help support Alzheimers Marlborough in their local work. We think it’s a worthy cause to support people in our community living with dementia.
Helen Hannay from Alzheimers Marlborough says “our Arts, Craft and Collection Trail has been wonderfully supported by local artists who are giving their time freely. These folk include oil and watercolour painters, a graphic artist, potters, sculptors, wood carvers, fabric artists, china painters, ceramicists, a candle maker and four different collectors who have amassed some wonderful displays. The majority of our artists are displaying from their own private studios while others are joining together to display their work in some of the local public galleries.”
“The demand for our services is continually growing as more and more people are diagnosed with Alzheimers and the Society is now needing to expand their services and extend their building to meet these ever increasing needs,” says Helen.
Before we hear from our stallholders, a quick mention of October being NZ Cheese Month. We are sure that Cranky Goat and ViaVio would welcome your vote of favourite cheese. You could win a year’s worth of NZ cheese.
We’re open every Sunday from 9 to noon, rain or shine.
See you once gates open, from 8.45am.
Please scroll down for a peak from our stallholders and our recipe of the week.
We will be at the market this Sunday but will not have our bottles of juice this week. Instead, we will have yummy $8 cups of juice made on site! We will be back with your usual bottles of juicy goodness next weekend.
For this Sunday we'll be baking our lemon meringue tart and our Veneziana together with the hazelnut and coffee Tart.
We'll have all the other items of the usual selection. The novelties of this week will be "Lintzer tart" crafted with a cinnamon and almond short pastry filled raspberry jam and the "Fisherman Treat" typical of Genova. This really rich in fruit short bread was made for the long trip of fishermen out for days in the open sea.
Kindly, Silvia & Marco
Gourmet-deli is returning to the Market with a new food cart in a week’s time.
Although we have downsized ….our food is as generous as ever.
Margaret and Carol look forward to sharing food chat and laughs. Sausage rolls. Beef Pasties, spanakopita, chocolate brownie and a few new surprises.
Gluten free, dairy free and vegan lovers also catered for.
See you on the 16 October.
Thank you Margaret
With spring comes vigorous grass growth. Mowers come in many shapes. Tractor mounted, ride-ons to hand mowers.
For the big mowers I have an on-site service. For the hand mowers the blade or mower can be dropped off or they can be done on site. Commercial or private requests can be catered for. If you have mowers, kitchen utensils, tools or anything that needs sharpening, come and see me at the Farmers’ Market.
cheers Ron
Gluten Free Cauliflower Fritters
Alys from Homemade.kiwi gets a lot of enquiries about Gluten Free food so she kindly shares one of her favourite gluten free recipe here with us.
“A lot of people have asked me about Gluten Free recipes so here is one that's very tasty and simple to make”, says Alys.
Ingredients
You will need 600g Cauliflower florets, chopped finely, (available from the market),
1 tsp curry powder, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp ground turmeric, 1/2 tsp ground coriander,
1 tbsp chopped parsley, 1/2 cup rice flour, 1 tsp GF baking powder 1/2 tsp salt,
3 eggs (from the market), whisked.
Method
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Heat a film of oil in a large frying pan and cook 1/4 cup of the mixture until golden brown on both sides.
Serve with your favourite chutney and salad.
The free soup tasting this week is "CAPSICUM & CARROT", a wonderful soup to test your taste buds.
See you Sunday, Alys
