Thanks for coming to our special garden focused farmers’ market last Sunday. Beautiful weather and a great crowd.
Do you have plans for Easter? We are spoilt for choice in our region, with the Yealands Classic Fighters Airshow and the Marlborough Community Potters Annual exhibition just two of the many things on offer this long Easter weekend.
At the Marlborough Farmers’ Market on Sunday hot cross buns await, delicious street food, great atmosphere and great fresh produce less travelled, made in our wonderful region. Bring your friends and family, and don't forget the kids. They love our play area.
We’re not just about offering up produce with lower food miles, we are also here to help you safe. In case you missed it, read this recent article on Stuff on how much you could save by switching to the farmers' market – please tell and bring your friends.
Happy Easter
Mississippi Herbs came to the Marlborough Farmers' Market in 2004, the second year that the market ran.
Leah started by selling herb plants only, then expanded into cut herbs followed by herb products such as herb butters, pesto and salad dressings and homegrown vegetables.
For eight years Leah and her partner also produced hundreds of loaves of bread weekly along with the original oat cakes, sweet loaves and cakes sold by the slice. Eventually getting up at 2am on Sunday mornings took its toll and Leah quit. “After two knee replacement operations I came back to my original passion for herb plants, and I now have more time to grow vegetables, having also left my day job,” Leah says.
“Our property at the end of Dillons Point Road is one of a very few which still has trees, grassy paddocks and no grape vines. We garden along organic principles using only organic sprays when absolutely necessary - this happens less often these days,” Leah says.
“I have around 120 different varieties of herbs in my rather untamed garden, and birds and bees find it a haven. At present I have no plans to retire or leave!”
Figs are still in season. A popular variety is Mission, which will be at the Mangarua stall this Sunday.
Take a peek at our website homepage, to see which stalls will be attending. We update this page on Saturdays.
It seems like we were baking last month for Christmas and now Easter is already here.
Minghettis will be at the Farmers’ Market with Marco's XL Sourdough Hot X Bun.
Different kinds of Sourdough Bread like Smoked Paprika & Brie but also the traditional Sunday's bread crafted with local Durum wheat and the Multigrain for the grainy bread lovers.
One of the newest items is the Almond bite, "Pasta di mandorla", a typical sweet treat from Sicily with crispy edges and soft and chewy centres and they are GF too.
We wish you all a very peaceful and Happy Easter!!!

Pedro will be at the market this Sunday with his nine flavours of empanadas.
On the stall this Sunday Lowes will have Strawberries, Plums, 8 varieties of Apples, 3 varieties of Pears and 4 types of juice.
If that doesn't get Easter bunny hopping...nothing will!
As autumn rolls on and the seasons change so does our growing programme, but it doesn't mean plain or boring. Golden Mile Produce is happy to release our gorgeous new offering of tasty nutritional microgreens. Packed full of flavour, vitamins and stunning colour. These wee beauties are not just for decoration. Pop them in a sandwich for crunch and vitality. They look and taste stunning on an omlette, or just as a happy addition to your lettuce salad and we grow those too!
Easter is a great time to enjoy a break and treat yourself, how about eggs benedict with our spinach, Koromiko fresh eggs, New Heritage Bakery garlic & rosemary foccacia and topped with microgreens!
Buy "The Real McHugh" cookbook from Gourmet Deli to learn the secret to making the perfect easy hollandaise!

It’s that time of year again. Axes for some will be in use soon. It’s important to keep the axe head sharp and tight on the handle and the handle oiled to keep it from splitting.
If you have an axe that needs sharpening or repairing or any other tool, utensil or knives that need sharpening come and see me at the Marlborough Farmers' Market on Sunday.
Cheers, Ron
This recipe is shared with us by Christine Smith of Daltian Figs. This is a simple but savoury dish that she likes to use a lot.
Christine has donated her figs to RVS school, for their fundraiser. They are available from the market.
