Spotlight on Limrose Grove: A Fruitful Journey

Welcome to this month's spotlight feature, where we celebrate the hard work and dedication of local farmers who bring fresh produce to our tables. Today, we take a closer look at Limrose Grove, a beloved fixture in the Blenheim community known for its exceptional limes and raspberries.

Limrose Grove, owned and lovingly tended by Daryn Pope and Kay Lawrence, has been a part of the Marlborough landscape for the past 15 years. When Daryn and Kay first acquired their property, it was little more than a blank canvas—a stretch of land overgrown with grass and full of potential. With Kay’s background in farming and viticulture and Daryn’s expertise as an arborist, they envisioned a thriving orchard and set to work.

Their primary crops, limes and raspberries, were chosen for their suitability to the climate and their market appeal. Over time, they expanded their offerings to include other citrus varieties, apricots, nectarines, feijoas, and even Christmas lilies. Each plant is meticulously cared for, ensuring the highest quality produce for their customers.

Managing Limrose Grove is no small feat, especially as both Daryn and Kay juggle full-time jobs. Despite the challenges, they find joy in the process. "We do all the picking, packing, and tending ourselves," says Kay. "It’s hard work, but we love it."

Their dedication has paid off. Limrose Grove has earned a reputation in Blenheim for its quality produce and reasonable prices. The secret to their success lies in their hands-on approach and the personal care they give to each plant. Feeding and nurturing the plants is a labor of love, and their efforts are evident in every juicy lime and plump raspberry.

The journey hasn’t been without its trials. The couple recalls the significant challenges posed by recent floods, which tested their resolve and resilience. However, their commitment to their craft saw them through these tough times, and they emerged stronger and more determined.

When they’re not busy with the demands of their grove, Daryn and Kay indulge in their passion for gardening and other outdoor activities. Kay’s love for diving, when the weather allows, is a testament to their adventurous spirits and connection to nature.

Limrose Grove is more than just a farm; it’s a testament to hard work, passion, and community spirit. Daryn and Kay’s commitment to providing high-quality produce has earned them many satisfied customers in Blenheim and the surrounding areas. Their presence at the Marlborough Farmers’ Market (MFM) is a highlight for many market-goers, who look forward to the fresh, delicious fruits they bring.

As Daryn and Kay look to the future, they are eager to continue supplying their loyal customers with the best limes and raspberries around. They extend their heartfelt thanks to the community for their ongoing support and look forward to many more years of fruitful harvests.

Next time you visit the MFM, be sure to stop by Limrose Grove’s stall. Experience the fruits of Daryn and Kay’s labor and take home some of the finest produce Marlborough has to offer. Your taste buds will thank you!

SharpAs Tool Tips

Pictured are two mandolines with a spare blade. Once only seen in restaurants as a quick means of slicing vegetables, they are becoming popular in home kitchens. Like all kitchen cutting equipment, the blades become dull and need sharpening to keep the mandolines performing efficiently.

If you have these or any other kitchen utensils, knives, or tools (garden, woodwork, metalwork), come and see me at the Redwood Market on Saturday mornings or the Marlborough Farmers' Market on Sunday mornings, or contact me at 027 444 5535.

 Cheers, Ron

See you Sunday, 9 to noon, A&P showgrounds.
